How WiseReg works

No jargon. Here's what actually happens when you ask a compliance question.

Step 1: You ask a question in plain English

You type something like "Does our PDS need to include fee comparison information under RG 97?" — no special syntax, no document codes. WiseReg understands natural language questions about Australian financial services regulation.

Step 2: Retrieval — finding the right source material

WiseReg searches a curated index of ASIC Regulatory Guides, Class Orders, and APRA Prudential Standards. This isn't a simple keyword search. The system converts your question into a semantic representation — essentially a mathematical description of what the question means — and finds the passages in the regulatory corpus that are closest in meaning, not just in wording.

The result is a short list of the most relevant clauses and paragraphs from the actual source documents. These are the raw materials for your answer.

Step 3: Validation — a second pass before you see anything

Before returning a result, WiseReg runs a separate validation step. Think of it as a second analyst checking the first analyst's work. The validator reviews the retrieved clauses and the proposed answer to check that:

  • The cited clauses actually support the conclusion
  • No contradicting clauses have been missed
  • The answer is specific enough to be actionable, not just a restatement of the question

If the validator finds a problem, WiseReg will revise or flag the answer rather than present a result it cannot stand behind.

Step 4: You get a cited, auditable answer

The final output includes:

  • A direct answer to your question
  • The specific clauses from the source document that support it — with paragraph references you can verify yourself
  • A confidence indicator showing how well the retrieved material matched your question
  • A full log of the retrieval and validation steps, timestamped and exportable for your compliance file

What WiseReg is not

WiseReg is not a substitute for legal advice on novel or contested questions. It is a research and drafting tool that helps compliance professionals work faster and more consistently. Every answer includes its sources — you remain in control of the final interpretation.
